Relegated to the losers’ bracket in the area tournament at Holdrege, the First Bank Seniors weren’t ready to call it a season just yet as they used a pitching gem and plenty of offense to down Broken Bow 11-1 on July 21. The win moved First Bank’s record to 8-16 and kept them alive for another day.
Jake Kuehn tossed a no-hitter but did allow a number of baserunners due to walks. For the most part, however, timely strikeouts and solid defense kept Broken Bow from producing runs. Kuehn’s final line was one run, no hits, seven walks and four strikeouts.
Neither team scored until the fourth inning. Broken Bow got its lone run in the top of the inning then First Bank came back with three in the bottom half. Kuehn led off with a single and JC McDowell and Jake Wehrer reached on errors to load the bases. Kuehn’s pinch runner and McDowell then scored off errors and Ben Edgecombe’s single brought home a pinch runner for Wehrer. After four it was First Bank up 3-1.
