First Bank opened the area tournament with a 9-8 win over Holdrege at Holdrege on July 19 just two days after losing to Holdrege by that same score. First Bank moved to 7-15 and advanced to play McCook on July 20.
First Bank scored three in the top of the second to get a lead it would not relinquish. Jake Wehrer (pinch run for by Aaron Skaggs), Theo Huber and Jackson Bespalec all walked and all scored due to Holdrege errors.
Plating four more in the top of the third, First Bank went on top a quasi-comfortable 7-0. Marshall Chasek walked, Jake Kuehn was plunked by a pitch and both advanced on JC McDowell’s sacrifice bunt. Braden Bates then singled to score Chasek and Huber followed with a single to drive in Kuehn. Bates and Huber would score, respectively, from an error and a wild pitch.
