The 2018 State Track and Field Championships were held on a pleasant Friday and a rainy and cool Saturday, May 18 and 19 at Omaha Burke.
The Axtell boys' track and field season was one for the ages. The Wildcats went through the '18 spring schedule unscathed, picking up the crown jewel of them all—the Class D state championship, their first outright. The 2006 boys' team tied with Falls City Sacred Heart for the title.
As was the case with the year's other meets, the margin of this victory was not close, especially by state meet standards. The Cats scored 65 to easily outpoint the rest of the 'D' field which had Giltner (42), North Central (41) and Mullen (33) as the next three. In 2017 the top six team finishers were within five points of each other with Axtell coming in fourth.
