James Widdifield was welcomed to his first meeting as MPS superintendent during the July 9 Minden Public Schools Board of Education regular meeting. With only five days in the position and two weeks in town, Widdifield expressed his gratitude to the staff and community for making his family feel as if they have lived in Minden their whole lives.
Moving on to business, second reading of policy updates were under consideration. Widdifield reminded the board the proposed amendments to Policy 3570 ESSA, Policy 4003 Personnel Anti-discrimination, Policy 5401 Student Anti-discrimination, Policy 5101 Student Discipline, Policy 5402 Child Abuse & Neglect, Policy 5403 Married Students, Policy 5418a Homeless Student Policy Forms, Policy 6212 Assessments - Academic Content Standards, Policy 6410 Parent Involvement in Title I Programs, and Policy 8231 Coffee Act Policy would help catch up local policies with state and federal mandates. Second reading of the amended policies was approved.
Second reading for adoption of Policy 6213 Reading Instruction & Improvement and Policy 1102 Recording of Others was also on the agenda. The purpose of both guidelines is to update the current code in order to comply with State statute. Second reading to adopt both policies was approved by the board. Also approved unanimously was reaffirmation of Policy 6370 Multicultural Education.
