Joe Hitchcock - September 01, 2013

Joe Hitchcock, 89 years of age from Hildreth, died on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013, at the Franklin County Hospital in Franklin.
Joe was born on Oct. 26, 1923, in Bellaire, Kan., to Harry and Myrtle (Chance) Hitchcock.
He grew up on the family farm near Cora, Kan., and later served in the U.S. Air Force.
He married Leona Hemje on June 12, 1949, in Hildreth.
Joe worked at the Mobil Gas Service in Hildreth, Olson Brothers Land Leveling, but for most of his working career, he was a mechanic and service manager for John Deere in Minden. He also farmed, raised hogs, catered and upon retirement, he drove school bus for the Hildreth Public Schools.
He was innovative in creating treasures from items most people would have considered junk. He enjoyed fixing anything he could get his hands on and spending time in his shop with always a new idea of something to build.
