Madeline Ryan - May 03, 2013


Madeline E. Ryan, 92, of Axtell, died Friday, May 3, 2013, at Kearney County Health Services in Minden.
Madeline was born Dec. 22, 1920, in Kearney to Pete and Stella (Williamson) Ripp.
She graduated from Riverdale High School and then went to Kearney Normal School.
She moved to Oakland, Calif., where she worked in the ship yards as a welder during the war.
She married Patrick Ryan on Oct. 23, 1944, in Kearney. They farmed north of Axtell.
Madeline also worked at J.C. Penney in Kearney as a clerk for 25 years.
She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Minden and the Altar Society. She enjoyed baking, dancing, and playing cards.
Madeline was known for her great smile and friendliness. She was very compassionate and enjoyed visiting her relatives and friends.
Surviving relatives include her sons, Patrick Jr. and wife Adell Ryan of Axtell, Michael Ryan and companion Karen Chiarbos-Warner of Axtell; daughters, Kathleen and husband Scott Hartless of DeSoto, Texas, Mary and husband Mike Delka of Red Cloud, Christine and husband Ron Ruhter of Waco, Texas; son-in-law, Phil Bentz of Blue Hill, Rita’s friend Terry Tole of Haysville, Kan.; sister-in-law, Mona Ripp of Kearney, 19 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, daughters, Rita Fries, and Jeanne Bentz, and a brother, Kenneth Ripp.
Mass of Christian Burial was May 6 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Minden with Father Nicholas Baker and Father Tom Ryan officiating.
Burial was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Axtell.
