Russell Hawthorne - April 26, 2013

Russell “Rusty” Hawthorne, 48 years of age of Kearney, formerly of Minden died Friday, April 26, 2013, near Minden.
Rusty was born on Feb. 28, 1965, in Lincoln to Kenneth and Sandra (Miller) Hawthorne.
He grew up in Waverly and graduated from Waverly High School in 1983.
Rusty started working at Good Year in Lincoln.
On Aug. 25, 1984 he married Shelly Madsen and they lived in Waverly until moving to Minden in 1999.
Rusty farmed in the Minden area. Rusty and Shelly moved to Summerhaven four years ago.
Rusty enjoyed boating, camping, hunting and fishing, sprint car racing, motorcycles, being at the lake, “Grandma Madsen’s” cooking but mostly food in general.
He loved life, spending time with “Shell” and the boys and always cherished his time with friends.
Everyone, from dear friends to strangers were always welcome in their home. He loved them as his own and wanted the best for each and every one of them.
Rusty was great with his hands and could tackle any remodeling, home improvement, or gear-head project with ease. He was hard working and wouldn’t stop until the job was done.
Survivors include his wife, Shelly of Summer Haven; sons, Ryan and Zach both of Summerhaven; his parents, Kenneth and Sandra of Waverly; sisters, Kendy Pagles of Waverly and Terri Hawthorne of Lincoln; father-in-law, Tom Madsen and wife, Franny of Kearney and mother-in-law Betty Wood and husband, Bruce of Lincoln; sister-in-law, Norie Phelps and husband, Doug of Salem, Ore., and brother-in-law, Jamie Madsen and wife, Jenny of Minden.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents and brother-in-law, Rob Pagles.
Visitation will be at the Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden on Tuesday from 3 to 6 p.m. with the family present from 3 to 4 p.m.
Memorial services will be Wednesday, May 1 at 1 p.m. at Kuper Field with the Rev. Nancy Lambert officiating. In case of inclement weather the service will be at the United Methodist Church in Minden.
Burial of his cremains will be at the Minden Cemetery. Memorial is strongly suggested to the Rusty Hawthorne Memorial Fund.
Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden is in charge of arrangements.
