Shirley Berger - January 27, 2013

Shirley Mae Berger, 94, of Scottsbluff, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.
Shirley was born Aug. 5, 1918, in Tryon to Charles H. and Inez (Monroe) Green.
She attended school in Minden where she graduated from high school and attended Kearney State Teacher’s College.
She was employed at Minden National Bank and First National Bank in Lincoln.
Shirley married Howard Berger June 14, 1942, in Minden. They observed 70 years of marriage last June. They came to Scottsbluff in 1946.
Shirley was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Scottsbluff, a lifetime member of the BPO Does No. 21 where she was pianist for 39 years and was selected as Grand Lodge Musician during the Elk’s National Convention in 1978.
Shirley was an avid golfer, golfing well into her 80s and loved playing Bridge with the same club for over 60 years. She made over 100 quilts for the Linus Project.
Survivors include her husband, Howard; son, Chuck (Dawn) Berger of Helena, Mont.; daughter, Patty (Steve) Lavely of Greeley, Colo.; and granddaughter, Stephanie Berger of Missoula, Mont.
Preceding Shirley in death were her parents.
Funeral services were Jan. 31 at First Presbyterian Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Brad Gustafson officiating.
A private family interment was held prior to the service at Fairview Cemetery.
A memorial has been established to the First Presbyterian Church.
