Marlene Foglesong - August 14, 2012


Marlene A. Foglesong, 77 years of age from Grand Island, formerly of Kearney died on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, at Golden Living Center-Grand Island Lakeview, after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Marlene was born on Jan. 4, 1935, in Minden to Martin and Sena (Tomsen) Jorgensen.
She grew up in the Minden area and graduated from Minden High School in 1952.
In 1954 she married Richard “Dick” Hansen, and they farmed near Norman. Dick died in 1962.
On Aug. 30, 1965, she married Robert “Bob” Foglesong. They made their home and raised their family in Kearney. Bob died in 2001.
Marlene managed the bookwork for Bob’s painting business and was active in the farming operation near Minden.
She was an avid Nebraska football fan and loved attending the games.
She was a very involved member of the First Lutheran Church in Kearney; she was a great cook and was very meticulous about everything she did.
Over the years she volunteered many hours for various organizations in the Kearney area. She loved her family, was so proud of her grandkids and was a caregiver all her life. She was also a member of HATS-Helping Another To Smile.
Survivors include son, Sam Foglesong and wife, Lisa, of Grand Island; daughter, Tara Foglesong of Grand Island; grandchildren, Meggan Coghill and husband, Curt, of Omaha, McKenzie Roeder of Kearney, Kaiti George and husband, Tom, of Kearney, Abbey and Jack Foglesong, both of Grand Island; and son-in-law, Dan Roeder of Kearney.
Her two husbands and daughter, Jill, preceded her in death.
Funeral services were Aug. 20 at the First Lutheran Church in Kearney with the Rev. Rebecca McDermott officiating.
Burial was in the Minden Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to First Lutheran Church and the Alzheimer’s Association.
Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden was in charge of arrangements.
