Teresa Ryan - July 16, 2012

Teresa Lynn Ryan, 52 years of age from Hastings, passed away at her parents’ home in Minden on Monday, July 16, 2012, after battling cancer.
Teresa was born Oct. 14, 1959, in Minden to Wesley F. and Marcia B. (Youngson) Shannon.
She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church.
She attended Norman and Minden grade schools, and graduated from Minden High School in 1977.
She then attended Kearney State College where she graduated Summa Cum Laude.
She married Gerald Ryan on June 25, 1995. They lived in Grand Island for several years and then settled in Hastings.
She had a great passion for music her entire life and enjoyed playing the flute and piano. She also loved to travel and always enjoyed seeing new places.
A compassionate person, Teresa would do what she could to help a friend or relative who was in need, especially her great aunt, Fern Madden, who passed in 2010.
In her last few months, Teresa treasured her family and friends. She especially looked forward to trips and walks with her husband, Gerald, and playing with her 6 year old nephew, Wesley. During this time she was able to get the family pictures taken, (a project she had been working on for several years), enjoy life and the outdoors, listen to beautiful music, do daily devotions, decide what to do with her worldly possessions, choose a monument, select poetry and photographs for her memorial service, and pray a lot.
Survivors include her husband, Gerald, of Hastings; stepdaughter, Kimberly J. Ryan of Kearney; parents, Wesley and Marcia Shannon of Minden; brother, Jon A. Shannon of Norman; nephew, Wesley N. Shannon; aunts and uncles, Patricia Youngson of Boulder, Maxine Jones and husband, Jim, of Holdrege and Eleanor Deisley and husband, Marvin, of Norman.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents.
Burial was in the Minden Cemetery prior to the memorial service.
Memorial services were July 19 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden with the Rev. Donald Hunzeker officiating.
Teresa requested that memorials be given to Oaks Indian Mission, P.O. Box 130 155 N. Military Road, Oaks, Oklahoma, 74359.
Layton-Craig Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
