Edna Paulsen - April 24, 2012

Edna Louise Paulsen, 87, of Holdrege, died Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege.
Edna was born Jan. 2, 1925, on the family farm south of Elm Creek in Phelps County, the youngest of six children of Charles Arthur and Pauline Josephine (Larson) Larson.
She received her primary education at the Snowball District School and then attended Loomis High School, graduating with the Class of 1941. She pursued higher education at the Kearney Normal School for two years attaining her teaching credentials.
She taught school for five years in Phelps County and worked in the summers as a waitress in Lincoln and Estes Park, Colo.
On June 2, 1948, she was united in marriage to John Paulsen Jr., and to this union three children were born: Gwen Yvonne, Cristy Kay and James Thad. The family made their home on a farm in Phelps County, north of Funk, where she assisted John on the farm.
She also enjoyed gardening, canning fruits and vegetables, cooking, sewing, quilting, embroidery, playing Bridge, water exercise classes and entertaining friends and family. She loved traveling with John, especially spending the winters in Sun Lakes, Ariz., since 1979.
She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, where she recently received her 60-year membership certificate. While in Arizona she enjoyed attending church, Bible studies and other activities at the Community Church.
Survivors include her husband, John, of Holdrege; children, Gwen Needham and husband, Dale, of Campbell, Cristy Christensen and husband, Eldon, of Stapleton, James Paulsen and wife, Mary, of Funk; grandchildren, Gary Needham and wife, Angela, Duane Needham and wife, Angelika, Robert Needham and wife, Joan, Mark Needham and wife, Susie, Marcia Kriz and husband, Capt. Patrick Kriz, Lynette Karg and husband, James, James Christensen and wife, Melissa, John Christensen and wife, Bobbie, Shelly Gifford and husband, Tom, Leslie Gerdes and husband, Jason, and Stephanie Todd and husband, Damien; 24 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Ruth Nelson and Irene Griffith; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by a grandson born at rest; sisters, Verna Palmer and husband, Raymond, Ruth Anderson and husband, Elmer O. and Lila Else; brothers, Harold Larson and wife, Elvera, and Carl Larson; brothers-in-law, Albert Paulson and wife, Alberta, Roy Paulson and wife, Myrtle, Herbert Paulson and wife, Helen, Densmore Nelson and Claude Griffith; and sisters-in-law, Myrtle Clayton and husband, Thomas and Louise Paulsen.
Funeral services were April 28 at the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege with the Rev. Dale Lambert and Chaplain DeWane Dow officiating.
Interment was in the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in her memory and kindly suggested to the First United Methodist Church – Remodeling Fund.
