Richard Hickman - January 31, 2012

Richard (Dick) Hickman, 89, of Minden, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, at his home in Minden.
Dick was born Jan. 23, 1923, in Jamestown, N.Y., to Russell and Doris (Mitchell) Hickman.
He lived in the Jamestown area until joining the U.S. Marine Corp. in 1942. He served in the Pacific against the Japanese in World War II. When he got out of the Marines in 1946, he made his home in Hastings.
He attended Hastings College for three years.
He worked as a mechanic, body man, tool and die maker, and for Kearney State College.
On Jan. 15, 1977, he married Catharine Philpot and they lived in Minden.
He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church.
He enjoyed radio controlled airplanes, camping, fishing, playing pitch and had sang in bands. He loved being around his family.
Survivors include his wife, Cathy, of Minden; sons, Larry of Neosho, Mo., Steve of Elm Creek, and Danny of Jamestown, N.Y.; daughter, Sharon Cohrs of Chanute, Kan.; stepchildren, Tom Jarvis of Ogallala, Earl Philpot of Petersburg, Va., and Polly Worley of Minden and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a son.
Funeral services were Feb. 3 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden with the Rev. Donald Hunzeker officiating.
Burial was in the Fredericksburg Lutheran Cemetery.
Craig Funeral Home of Minden was in charge of arrangements.
