Kenneth Bundgaard - January 01, 2012

Former Hastings resident, Kenneth F. Bundgaard, died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012, at Kearney County Health Services Long-Term Care in Minden.
Kenneth was born Feb. 10, 1924, in Keene to Jens and Minnie (Walberg) Bundgaard.
Jens Bundgaard immigrated from Denmark in 1904. His parents were married in 1912. They had two children, Kenneth F. and Margaret; who passed away when she was one year old.
He married Lorraine Manns in 1941. They lived in Bendorff, Iowa; Canton, Ohio; Cincinnati, Ohio and then moved home to Minden. They had two children, Kenneth James and Colleen Joan. Ken was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine Bundgaard in 1952. Kenneth married Iris Wells in 1965, she preceded him in death in 1970. Kenneth married LaVonne Trine Ockinga in 1974; she preceded him in death on July 19, 2011.
He farmed his land south of Minden most of his working career. In 1989 they retired from farming and moved to Hastings. He immediately found his next career for 20 years as a greeter at Wal-Mart.
He was active in the Danish community and with lifelong friends in Minden. His hobbies included collecting belt buckles, John Deere collectibles, and animal figures surrounding his home. He was active in square dancing and traveled extensively during his retirement years.
Survivors include his children, Jim Bundgaard of Hastings and Colleen Ouellette and husband, Frank, of Atlanta, Ga.; stepchildren, La Donna Ockinga of Phoenix, Ariz., Gregory Ockinga and wife, Catherine, of Culbertson, Gary Ockinga and wife, Marge, of Hastings, Debby Rypkema and husband, Steve, of Roseland, and Doug Ockinga and Kathleen Klein of Kearney; grandchildren, David Peter, Sean Peter, Amy and Dave Marks, Jeff Ockinga, Janet Ockinga, Phillip and Kelsie Ockinga, Andrew and Jennifer Ockinga, Tim and Abbey Ockinga, Justin Ellis, Jarett and Wendy Ellis, Jennifer and Jeff Kully, Kelli Ockinga, Sara and Ben Taylor and Beth and Nick Fila; great-grandchildren, Jaiden Kully, Jace Kully, Ethan Ellis, Colton Taylor, Warner Fila, and Chase Barry Taylor.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wives, Lorraine, Iris, and LaVonne; sister, Margaret Bundgaard; and great-granddaughter, Addison Marks.
Services were Jan. 4 at Peace Lutheran Church in Hastings with the Rev. Marcus J. Mackay officiating.
Burial was in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings.
Memorials may be given to Peace Lutheran Church in Hastings, Fredericksburg Lutheran Church in Minden or United Presbyterian Church in Minden.
