Minden Girls Win Seventh Straight SWC Championship PDF Print E-mail

The Minden Lady Whippets have claimed their seventh straight Southwest Conference championship on Saturday, defeating the Valentine Badgers for the crown at Lexington High School.
Minden improved its record to 16-2 with a convincing come-from-behind 19 point victory over the Badgers, 60-41.
The Whippets were led to the title by sophomore Jamie Kissinger with a team-high 25 points including ten field goals, five of which were behind the arc. Joining Jamie in double-digits were sister Brooke Kissinger with 16 points with 5 of 5 shooting from line. Hallie Bauer concluded the double-digit scorers, finishing with 15 points, making seven shots from the floor.
The Whippets found themselves in a hole after the first period of play. The Badgers outscored Minden 15-8 in the opening eight minutes of play. Jamie Kissinger led the team with a three-pointer followed by baskets from Brooke Kissinger and Carly Sitorius and a free throw from Bailey Petersen.
In the second, Minden rose to the occasion outscoring Valentine 17-12 behind Jamie Kissinger’s nine points all coming on three-pointers. Brooke Kissinger added four points while Bauer added three.
Minden went from down seven to down only two at intermission, 27-25, to the Badgers.
In the third period, Minden exploded at the offensive end of the court and got after Valentine on the defensive end. The Whippets scorched the nets for a game-best 23 points in the third while holding the Badgers to only four points on two field goals. Jamie Kissinger continued to have the hot-hand scoring nine more points to pace the team followed by Bauer with eight points and sister Brooke with six.
Minden went from a deficit to leading Valentine by 17 point lead, 48-31, entering the fourth and final period.
In the fourth, Minden outscored Valentine 12-10 led by Jamie and Brooke Kissinger and Bauer all scoring four points. The Whippets went on for the 60-41 victory.
