Kearney County Health Services is honoring Cardiac Rehab Week February 11-17 by reminding residents of the cardiac rehab services available locally.
Cardiac rehab is an exercise program for people who have suffered a heart condition. It combines exercise, monitoring, and education to help strengthen the patient’s heart and help reduce the chances of future heart problems. The KCHS Cardiac Rehab center opened in 1990 in a small space with limited exercise equipment.
“When we first started out, they knocked out the wall between two patient rooms and that was our first Cardiac Rehab room. We just had a treadmill and an exercise bike in the beginning and for the heart monitor, I would just print off strips,” KCHS Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation Julie Schmidt said.
