C.L. Jones Middle School Journalism students received two awards February 7 from the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency. The students earned honorable mention and $100 for their 60 second tornado safety PSA commercial and first place and $100 for their flash flood infograph in the Nebraska Severe Weather/Preparedness PSA contest.
“I asked a specific group of students to work on these items for the competition because they have been very dedicated to the Journalism class over the last two years. They went above and beyond when creating these promotional items and took great pride in their submissions,” Journalism teacher Whitney Maulsby said.
The annual contest sponsored by Nebraska Association of Emergency Management, the National Weather Service, and the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency invites middle school media classes to create and submit multimedia products promoting emergency preparedness and severe weather safety. Schools from across the state submitted inforgraphs, short videos, and PSAs on preparedness topics including home fire safety, home disaster preparedness, and safety tips for severe weather. Entries were judged on originality, effort, and accuracy.
