The Minden City Council had its second meeting of the month on January 22. Mayor Ted Griess informed the council that Marcia and Dan Davis announced they will be moving out of state to follow a pastoral position that was offered to Dan. He expressed regret to lose them as Minden residents and to lose Marcia as the Minden Chamber of Commerce Administrator.
Moving onto business, the council considered an ordinance amending Section 6-4, Hours of Liquor Sale, of the Minden Municipal Code. Councilman Larry Evans initiated the agenda item after he was approached by a local business that opens at 5:00 a.m. and sees a lot of early traffic purchasing fuel and refreshments on their way to places like the Harlan County Reservoir.
Current City Code allows alcohol sales between 7:00 a.m. and 1:00 a.m. State statute allows sales to begin as early as 6:00 a.m. Evans told the council he believes they should align the Municipal Code with State Statute. The ordinance was approved, the three readings were suspended, and the ordinance was adopted by title.
