Penelope Parr - October 05, 2013

Penelope “Penny” Stevens Parr, 91, of Stonington, Conn., wife of the late W. Grant Parr, of Minden, passed away Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at home. Her family was at her side.
Born in Pasadena, Calif., on April 25, 1922, Penny was the daughter of the late Paul and Penelope (Bixby) Stevens.
After graduating Eagle Rock High School, she attended the University of California at Berkeley, and then transferred to Radcliffe College (now consolidated into Harvard University) where she completed her college education, majoring in English, but narrowly missing her bachelor’s degree because she declined to stay on to fulfill the residency requirement.
Penny next moved to New York, joining the New York Daily News as part of a vanguard of women who were finally able to enter the professional world due to so many men being engaged in fighting World War II.
