Ellen Morris - November 16, 2012


Ellen Maren Morris was born on May 12, 1915, to Carl and Christine (Paulsen) Jacobsen in a sod house in Seneca and passed away on Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at the age of 97 years at the Bethany Home in Minden.
Ellen and her parents moved back to Minden about 3 years after she was born where her brother Leo was born. Her parents moved to another farm before buying a farm close to Upland.
She was united in marriage to Eldon George Morris on June 17, 1937. They had four children: Carlton George, Carol Jane, Myron LeRoy and Merlin Eugene.
Ellen and Eldon lived the first few years of their married life on a farm near Minden before moving to Eldon’s father’s homestead. They moved to Minden in 1961.
Ellen helped ladies with wallpapering in Upland and worked at the Pioneer Village Motel for several years after they moved to Minden. After Eldon died on May 24, 1981, Ellen wintered in Yuma, Ariz., staying with her daughter, Carol, and family.
She assisted a number of her older friends or relatives by helping them clean their houses after she stopped working at the motel.
She liked to play cards with her friends, read, embroidery, dine and visit with friends at the Senior Citizen’s Center, and enjoyed time with her family.
Survivors include her daughter, Carol Burge and husband, Leon, of Yuma, Ariz.; sons, Myron Morris and wife, Sheryl, of Minden, and Merlin Morris and wife, Linda, of Youngtown, Ariz.; grandchildren, Mark Morris and wife, Alyson, Michael Morris and wife, Beatriz, Mary Goebel and husband, Chris, Dawn Santeford and husband, James, Kevin Burge and wife, Shelley, Tammy Ellis and husband, Tony, Sandy Long and husband, Pat, Jennifer Kazmierczak and husband, Joel, and Crystal Remy and husband, Mitch; 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her father, Carl; mother, Christine; husband, Eldon; son, Carlton; and brother, Leo.
Celebration of life/funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 2 p.m. at the Minden Methodist Church in Minden.
Burial will be prior to the memorial service at the Minden Cemetery.
Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden is in charge of arrangements.
