Deane Pierce - November 14, 2012


Deane Elizabeth Pierce, 89, of Colorado Springs, Colo., formerly of Gibbon, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at her home.
Deane was born July 5, 1923, in Thompson to Eddie and Salora (Church) Zierenberg.
She received her education at Fairbury High School.
Following her graduation, Deane worked at a creamery in Fairbury at the start of WWII. She went on to work in accounting and later taught at a country school for one year.
On Jan. 20, 1946, she was united in marriage to V.J. “Johnny” Pierce. The couple farmed near Reynolds before moving to Gibbon in 1968 where they continued to farm.
Deane loved her friends, including Margaret Triplett of Gibbon.
She was a long-time member of the Sunshine Club.
She was an avid reader and loved to bake. She had a fondness for cats, but loved all animals. She will be missed by all.
She is survived by her son, Eddie Pierce and wife, Jane, of Minden; daughter, Jan Michalak and husband, Chuck, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sister, Evelyn Priefert of Lincoln; granddaughters, Nikki Podhaisky of Henderson, Nev., and Sarah Michalak of Boulder, Colo.; grandson, Chuck Pierce of Seattle, Wash.; great-granddaughters, Alicia Podhaisky of Honolulu, Hawaii and Erin Podhaisky of Rochester, N.Y.; nieces, Kathy Huff and Mary Dowell; nephew, Tom Priefert.
She is preceded in death by her husband and son, Dennis Pierce.
Funeral services were Nov. 19 at the O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home – Miller Godberson Chapel in Gibbon with the Rev. Matt Wolfe officiating.
Interment was in the Fairbury Cemetery in Fairbury.
Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.
