Karl Volskis - July 21, 2012

Karl Gustavs Volskis, 74, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 21, 2012, at his home in Greenbrae, Calif., after a long illness with Parkinson’s disease.
Born in Latvia to Olga and Kristaps Volskis, Karl was 10 years old when his family immigrated to Nelson in 1949. They settled in Minden a year later and Karl graduated from Minden High School in 1957.
He went on to serve in the U.S. Navy aboard an aircraft carrier, where he discovered his passion for airplanes and inspired him to obtain his private pilot’s license.
Karl eventually settled in the San Francisco Bay area where he met and married his wife, Billie.
After a 30 year career with the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department, Karl retired as a Lieutenant and enjoyed his days restoring classic cars, carpentry, and being a wonderful grandfather.
Karl was extremely loving and proud of his wife and best friend, Billie Volskis, with whom he would have celebrated 47 years of marriage with on July 31.
He will always be adored by his daughters, Kasi McGuire and husband, David, of San Diego, Calif., and Kristi Abrahamsen and husband, Scott, of Greenbrae, Calif. Karl is also loved by his granddaughters, Frankie, Billie, and Stevie McGuire and grandson, Chase Abrahamsen. He is survived by his sisters Lidija (Dale) Loschen of Hildreth Martha (Phil) Harsh of Salida, Colo.; and his brother, Willie (Connie) Volskis of Aurora, CO, as well as his many loving nieces and nephews where he will forever be in their hearts.
