Lela Bergsten - June 21, 2012


Hastings resident, Lela Bergsten, 85, passed away Thursday, June 21, 2012.
Lela was born May 27, 1927, to Lloyd “John” and Margaret (Holtze) Reed on a farm near Holstein.
After graduating from Holstein High School, she took normal training and taught at Ash Grove School.
She married Robert “Duane” Bergsten on March 21, 1948.
They farmed near Norman during which time she also worked as a secretary at Kansas Nebraska Gas in Minden.
After retiring, they moved to Hastings and have resided there for the last 20 years.
She was a member of the First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Hastings.
She enjoyed taking care of her garden at home and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Robert “Duane” Bergsten of Hastings; son, Gary L. Bergsten and wife, Jeanne, of Holdrege; daughter-in-law, Barbara Bergsten of Hickman; granddaughters, Jenice Bergstrom and husband, Brian, Lacy Best and husband, Zack; grandsons, John Bergsten and wife, Sarah, James Bergsten and wife, Emily, Jeff Bergsten and fiancée, Aimee Morelock; four great-granddaughters and four great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Rod Bergsten; twin brother, Gale; brother, Dale; and a sister, June Jorgensen and husband Wilber.
Services were July 2 at First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hastings with the Rev. Joel Remmers officiating.
Private family burial will be at a later date.

Brand-Wilson Funeral Home of Hastings was in charge of arrangements.
