Marie Bristol - May 20, 2012

Marie Lee Bristol of Geneva, passed away at her home in Geneva on Sunday, May 20, 2012, at the age of 35.
Marie was born Nov. 30, 1976, to parents Roger and Deb Holt in York. She was the first of two daughters to Roger and Deb. She had five more siblings born to her dad and stepmom, Elizabeth.
Marie spent part of her childhood in Council Bluffs, Iowa, before moving with her mom to Geneva.
She attended Geneva Public Schools for a while, and then moved to Minden, where she attended school as well.
In 1993, while in school at Minden she met her first love, Jeremy Johnson. In the spring of 1994 they learned they were expecting their first child. Sadly, Jeremy passed away on Aug. 4 of that year. Marie came back home to Geneva.
On Jan. 5, 1995, their daughter, Patience, was born in Geneva. By Marie’s side was her future husband, Matt Bristol.
Marie and Matt were married on Feb. 21, 1995. Shortly thereafter, they welcomed their second daughter, Bailey, on Dec. 8, 1995. Marie had her hands full with two baby girls, so close in age but she loved every bit of it.
Marie held several jobs in her early 20s, but her favorite and most important job was being a mom. She volunteered at Head Start, where the girls attended preschool. She could often be found there on a daily basis helping in the classroom, going on field trips, helping with Toys For Tots or attending their bi-monthly regional or national Head Start meetings. She was also a substitute teacher when needed.
On June 1, 2002, Marie married her second husband, Jason Maier. They spent eight happy years together, and the girls loved him as their dad.
The family enjoyed many vacations and good times together, including a trip to South Dakota. Marie and the girls had frequent “girls nights” where they would watch movies, stay up late and have sleepovers in the living room.
Jason and Marie would take trips to California to visit friends. During this time, Marie was a volunteer for the Geneva Rescue Squad. She loved to read. You would not catch Marie without a book in her hand or her bag. She could often be seen walking downtown while reading a book at the same time. She also loved spending time with children. She was great with babies, and loved making them laugh. She never turned down diaper changing duties. She loved to sing and listen to music.
She is preceded in death by all of her great-grandparents; her dear friend, Diane; her boyfriend, Jeremy Johnson; her grandparents, Ford and Betty Holt and Neva Schram.
She will be dearly missed by her daughters, Patience and Bailey; sister, Sarah (Holt); and brother-in-law, Joseph Bartlett; brothers, Dylan, Isaiah, Elijah, Marcus; and sister, Betty Jean; parents, Roger and Deb Holt; and stepmom, Elizabeth Holt; grandfather, Dale Schram, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Private family graveside services were held prior to the funeral.
Funeral services were held at the Assembly of God Church in Geneva on May 25.
Memorials can be sent to 1617 G Street, Geneva, NE 68361 and will be directed to a college fund for Patience and Bailey.
