Gene Jensen - January 12, 2012

Former Minden resident Gene Lou Sullivant Jensen died Jan. 12, 2012, at her son Peter’s home in Placitas, N.M.
Gene was born May 30, 1920, in Oklahoma City, the younger of two daughters of Ralph and LaRose (Bryant) Sullivant.
Genie was a student at the University of Southern California when she met Minden native Marshall A. Jensen, who was serving in the Army Air Corps. They married in 1942 and later settled in Minden.
She was a member of the Minden P.E.O. chapter.
Genie and Marsh moved to San Diego in 1972. She was a founding member of the Assistance League of Inland North County and in 1997 was named Volunteer of the Year. She also volunteered for Children’s Hospital.
Widowed in 2009, she moved to Albuquerque, N.M., in 2011 to be closer to her family.
She was predeceased by two children, Marshall A. Jensen, Jr. (Andy) and an infant daughter, Susan.
In addition to Peter and his wife, Christina, she is survived by her daughter, Jill Sculley of Boonton, N.J.; grandchildren, Scott Jensen and wife, Brandi, of Northglenn, Colo., John Jensen and wife, Aimee, of Ft. Collins, Colo., Arthur Sculley Jr. of Columbus, Ohio, Claire Jensen of Royal Oak, Mich., and Marshall A. Jensen II and wife, Manuela, of Albuquerque, N.M.; five great-grandchildren; and three nieces — the daughters of her late sister, Memory Lee.
Alert and comfortable under hospice care, she enjoyed a personal visit with each of these family members during the last week of her life.
Following cremation, interment will be in the Minden cemetery. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Kearney County Community Foundation/Jensen Memorial Library, P.O. Box 213, Minden NE 68959.
