Wilbur Jorgensen - December 29, 2011

Former Hastings resident, Wilbur B. Jorgensen, 97, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, at Blue Hill Care Center in Blue Hill.
Wilbur was born May 25, 1914, near Norman to Harry and Mary (Andersen) Jorgensen.
His mother died when he was five days old. He spent the first two years of this life with his Andersen grandparents in Racine, Wis. He returned to the Osco community in rural Kearney County and was raised there.
He attended Upland High School. He then attended National School in Los Angeles, Calif., studying the automotive/machinist trade.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II from April 4, 1942, to Oct. 18, 1945, serving in the South Pacific Theater. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he returned to Nebraska.
On June 9, 1946, he married June Reed at her parent’s home near Holstein.
He owned his own auto repair shop in Minden before moving to Hastings in 1952. After moving to Hastings, he worked at Sidles Company, Pickett Motor, Gessford Automotive Repair, and Hastings Utilities.
He was a 58-year member of the First Presbyterian Church. He served as a Deacon and participated in Mariners and various men’s activities. He was also a member of the American Legion, Midwest Lodge 317 A.F. and A.M., and Hastings Scottish Rite Bodies.
Survivors include daughters, Jolene Koos and husband, Charles, of Roseland, and Shelley Partridge and husband, John of Fremont; grandchildren, Stacey Strong of Hastings, Jessica Nelson and husband, Chris, of Omaha, Kelly Nicholson and husband, Mark, of Bellevue, Russell Koos and Kara Foster of Lincoln, Claire Partridge and Drew Partridge, both of Fremont; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Perry Jorgensen and wife, Delores, of Minden; sisters-in-law, Lela Bergsten and husband, Duane, of Hastings, Bonita Harper and husband, Mel, of Hastings, and Harriet Jorgensen of Minden; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, June, on Sept. 18, 2008; stepmother, Emily Jorgensen; sister, Thurza Nelson; brother, Gail Jorgensen; brother-in-law, Gale Reed; and nephew, Larry Nelson.
Funeral services were Jan. 3 at First Presbyterian Church in Hastings with the Rev. Dr. William Nottage-Tacey officiating.
Burial was at Osco Cemetery, near Minden.
Memorials may be given to Osco Cemetery Association.
Condolences may be sent to Livingston-Butler-Volland Funeral Home and Cremation Center was in charge of arrangements.
