Former Minden Band Director Phil Fahrlander was inducted into the Music Educators Hall of Fame in an awards ceremony November 15 during State Music Clinic in Lincoln. Induction into the Hall of Fame is the most prestigious award bestowed to NMEA members. Criteria for nominees of the honor are extensive, but Fahrlander meets them all.
Fahrlander was the Minden High School Band Director from 1968 to 1997. Under his instruction, the Minden band was renowned for their unique marching style and high quality of music. Many parade crowds remember the band performing “Trumpet Voluntary” followed by “Swing March” with a round banner and mascot at the front of the procession.
His bands consistently won high honors in every competition and contest. The MHS band of 1975 band performed at the Portland Rose Festival winning the Best of All Outstate Bands award.
