On August 21, a trailer of used wheelchairs and walkers left Minden for a prison in Norton, Kansas before they are distributed to people with disabilities around the globe through the Wheels for the World program.
Joni and Friends is a ministry in California dedicated to serving people affected by disabilities around the world. Their Wheels for the World program provided its 100,000th wheelchair in 2014 and they aim to provide another 100,000 by 2020. Bethany Home Maintenance Director Lynn Tacha, Kearney County Health Services Maintenance Supervisor Lenny Ginder, and Norton Correctional Facility Officer Kelly Karnopp are helping reach that goal.
Wheels for the World accepts all mobility aids including wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, and canes despite their condition. Volunteers collect the equipment by performing pickups and providing local drop-off sites to make the donation process simpler.
