Four Minden residents were honored during the August 20 meeting of the Minden City Council. Aksarben Ambassador Larry Wilcox presented Good Neighbor Awards to Dick Phillips, Sally Phillips, Don Phillips, and Terry Delgado.
Through the Aksarben Good Neighbor Award, the organization has been recognizing the good deeds of groups and individuals for more than 70 years. Wilcox nominated the Minden recipients for their dedication to the town square through the seasons. Dick and Sally’s deeds include helping with the pageant display each winter. Don and Terry were recognized for their work establishing and maintaining plants and flowers around the square each spring and summer.
Moving on to business, the council was asked to consider setting a hearing for possible condemnation of property at 536 N. Kearney Ave. Following a complaint concerning the conditions of the house on the property, the building was inspected by City officials who declared the property uninhabitable.
Conditions noted during the inspection included mold in the basement, unpleasant odor emanating from the basement, exposed electric wires, foundation walls caving in, and windows missing. The building was noted to be in violation of several sections of Minden Municipal code.
