The Minden City Council had a short meeting August 6 in the council chambers. Topping the agenda was a second look at LED street light styles to consider changing bid specs.
During the June 18, 2018 meeting, the council approved bid specs for LED street lights to be 4000 Kelvin and 54000 Lumen with a glass cover and type 5 distribution. The type 5 distribution creates a more round light pattern that would reach onto residential properties and possibly houses.
Follow up correspondence with project engineers Olsson Associates recommended the council reconsider the type 5 distribution. According to Olsson Associates type 5 distribution is never used in residential application due to light shining in windows. Because it has a wider light distribution radius, it may also require a higher lumen package in order to provide adequate street lighting which results in more power usage.
