pened during the July 17 meeting of the Kearney County Board of Supervisors. Two bids were submitted with representatives from both companies attending the meeting to answer questions.
Murphy Tractor & Equipment Company bid a John Deere machine for $179,800 after trade-in with a 6 year, 7,000 hour comprehensive warranty. Delivery would be 45 to 60 days. Caterpillar bid a CAT for $166,175 after trade-in with a $10,000 parts credit included and a 5 year, 5,000 hour warranty. Delivery would be immediately.
County Roads workers had an opportunity previously to test both machines. Highway Superintendent Randy Smith reported it was an even comparison between them. After discussion of what the parts credit cover in the CAT bid, a motion was made to accept the bid from CAT. The vote was 5-2 with William Pittner and Wayne Anderson opposed. The motion passed and the CAT bid was accepted.
